The Broadway, Kidlington

On behalf of Oxfordshire County Council, and as one of the engineers responsible for the delivery of the resurfacing scheme at The Broadway in Kidlington, I like to contact the local parish councils directly to inform and discus logistics, as this tends to make the scheme run smoother. Am aware you should be consulted as part of the TTRO process but always like to make sure. As The Broadway falls within the ‘Dogwood’ ward, I have hopefully included those councillors responsible for this ward, as well as the clerk, Chair & Vice-Chair. Apologies if I have inadvertently missed anyone.

OCC have programmed to complete full width resurfacing of both sides of The Broadway within a single daytime full road closure, following which we will reinstate all legal and existing road markings.

  • Thursday 10th July; 07:00 – 19:00Hrs – Full closure of The Broadway, Kidlington

This is purely a maintenance scheme so currently everything will be reinstated ‘like for like’.  A fully signed diversion will be installed advising residents how to get in / out of this estate via the Yarnton Road instead.  All the parking bays within The Broadway, and those located within 10m either side along The Parade service Road have been formally suspended for the single daytime duration. This should ensure additional room for materials and plant.

I have attached copies of the GA drawing showing the agreed scope, the diversion route which will be signed, along with a copy of published TTRO giving us powers to formally close the adopted highway.

I also attach a copy of the letter which currently sits with the OCC Senior Officer for review, before I print and post.  The letter is timed to arrive two weeks prior to starting on site, which is also when we will install the advance warning signs at either end of The Broadway.

Please review this information and hopefully this all makes sense.

I would welcome any comments you may have and am happy to discuss further as required.

I would also appreciate it, if you could publicise this information on your website, social media feeds or newsletters as you see fit.

The wider I can circulate the information, the more informed all will be ??

Grovelands Works 14 July

Have a few schemes in Kidlington this year, this being the second one! Am working through in programme order ??

On behalf of Oxfordshire County Council, and as one of the engineers responsible for the delivery of the resurfacing scheme within part of Grovelands in Kidlington, I like to contact the local parish councils directly to inform and discus logistics, as this tends to make the scheme run smoother. Am aware you should be consulted as part of the TTRO process but always like to make sure.

OCC have programmed to complete full width resurfacing of Grovelands btw the Bellenger Way Rbt and the Yarnton Road within a single daytime full road closure, following which we will reinstate all legal and existing road markings.

  • Monday 14th July; 07:00 – 19:00Hrs – Full closure of Grovelands, Kidlington (Btw Bellenger Way Rbt & Yarnton Rd only).

This is purely a maintenance scheme so currently everything will be reinstated ‘like for like’. A fully signed diversion will be installed advising residents how to get in / out of this estate via the Yarnton Road instead.

A set of temporary traffic nights will be installed at the Bellenger Way Rbt so that residents of Bellenger Way have full vehicular access throughout the works.  Residents of the x5 cul-de-sacs affected will be informed of the works by letter and via the advance signs which will both be times to be installed / received 2 weeks prior to commencing. We will have gateman on hand to assist with providing as much vehicular access as possible, although once the new hot material is laid, no access will be possible until it has cooled sufficiently to be driven on.

The bus services have been liaised with and hey will still run their usual services.  Buses will enter from Lynn Road, use the same stop at the top of Grovelands nr Anderson Close, then use The Phelps Rbt to turn around and head out via Lynn Road.  Bus services will not utilise the full length of Grovelands therefore. Same timings will apply as normal.

I have attached copies of the GA drawing showing the agreed scope, the diversion route which will be signed, along with a copy of published TTRO giving us powers to formally close the adopted highway.

Please review this information and hopefully this all makes sense.

I would welcome any comments you may have and am happy to discuss further as required.

Cherwell Meadow Field - Footpath

Sustrans will shortly be commencing resurfacing and improvement works on our cycle path through Cherwell Meadows. This is the work granted planning permission under application 23/00830/F.

As stipulated by a condition of the planning permission, the path levels will not be raised above the original path elevation, to ensure that flood water is not displaced into surrounding areas.

In addition to resurfacing, we will be making improvements to overall drainage on-site. We acknowledge that the path will continue to flood during periods of heavy rain or when the river is in spate, however, the new path surface will be more durable, maintain traction, and will better withstand inundation.

These works will be starting in early August 2025, and we are aiming for completion by the end of November. Our contractors permitted working hours will be 07:00 to 18:00 Monday – Friday and 07:00 – 13:00 on Saturdays. Work will not take place on Sundays or bank holidays. Works access will be from the east end of the path to avoid causing issues on Church Street.

The path will be closed between Church Street and Bicester Road for the duration of the works, however other access points to the meadows will remain open. Our Sustrans volunteer Chris will put up signage at both ends of the closed path, which will include a map of the wider area so people can take alternative routes. We will make it clear on the signage that cycling is not permitted on the footpath between St Mary’s Church and Hampton Poyle.

We understand surveyors commissioned by colleagues were recently on site and speaking to users in St Mary’s Fields, causing alarm to those managing them. Please be assured no work is proposed or planned here, and we apologise for any distress caused.
