The long awaited resurfacing of the Car Park behind St. Mary's Church has now been completed.

It is hoped that this work will encourage more to visit and walk around St. Mary's Fields. The notice board has also been renewed and will contain regular reports, news, sightings etc.
This last month in the Fields has seen a good number of our winter visitors from Scandinavia-Fieldfares and Redwings. Look out for a large, stocky grey thrush with a long tail and heaviliy spotted underparts. That is a Fieldfare. Redwings are smaller, more the size of a Song Thrush. They have a whitish stripe above and below the eye and their flanks are rusty-red. There are lots of woodland birds-finches, thrushes, blackbirds, tits and wrens. You may also see and hear Jays with their pinkish grey brown plumage and brilliant white rumps. Their call is more of a harsh scream! The pond is very dry, despite wetter weather and will need more clearing. Grass snakes are occasionally seen in the vicinity.
