Hay Making in July
A small group of volunteers met this morning in the fields. The assignment was to rake the hay off one of the meadows cut previously. The aim is to create a wild flower meadow and a habitat for a variety of butterflies and other insects.
The meadow area need regular mowing and raking at this time of the year. If you can spare an hour or two to help then please contact the Parish Office who will then put you in touch with one of the St. Mary's Fields Management Committee.
The work we are doing at St. Mary's Fields is certainly paying off. We estimate 150 breeding pairs of birds this year-an amazing record. A grass snake has been seen and its possible that the rare hairstreak butterfly is present.
If you still have not been down to the fields then please pop down sometime and explore this beautiful little area for yourself.
